Our primary aim as Occupational Therapists is to enable children to develop independence in the following areas: 
Art Fun

Fine Motor Skills refers to the coordination of the small muscles in the hand to hold, explore, manipulate toys, pencils, textures and feeding utensils. Fine motor skills are imperative in mastering school readiness goals such as handwriting, cutting, threading and craft. 

Gross Motor Skills refers to the abilities required of the large muscle groups to achieve movements such as running, walking, jumping, throwing and kicking.  

Handwriting Skills are dependent on the development of three primary areas: fine motor coordination, manual dexterity and visual motor skills. Handwriting difficulties that may emerge include: disorganised handwriting, fatigue and pain, letter reversals, pencil pressure, legibility and speed. 

Play skills a Child’s occupation: refers to skills used in every day play such as imagination, role play, turn taking, winning and losing, building, threading and puzzles.

Self-care skills commonly referred to as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): involves everyday tasks of bathing, grooming, dressing routine, tying laces and fastening buttons.

Sensory Integration refers to the process of the brain organising and interpreting information from touch, movement, body awareness, sight, sound, smell and taste.

Difficulties that may emerge although are not limited to include: Sensitivities or dislikes to certain clothing, materials, textures and touch. Learning, attention, behaviour and regulation. Continually seeking movement or difficult to get moving.
